The nameplate that used to be associated with a massive, truck-like SUV got reinvented by Chevrolet and turned into one of the most precious-looking subcompact SUVs on the market. Not only is the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer a head-turner but it’s also a great value for money.
Starting at under $20,000, the 2021 Trailblazer comes in five trims – the L, LS, LT, Activ, and RS. They make the Trailblazer a versatile crossover that can accommodate the needs of budget-conscious shoppers as well as those of luxury seekers, or off-road enthusiasts.
The things that bind all Trailblazer renditions, though, are its superb exterior design and the sense of over-delivery at every turn.
Having had the benefit of starting with a blank canvas, Chevrolet’s designers made sure that the Trailblazer is fluent in the manufacturer’s modern design language. With sharp, assertive lines, a two-toned body color that gives the impression of a floating rooftop, and squinting headlights, the Trailblazer looks and feels brash, always ready to take you places. In style. Preferably also in a hurry.
Speaking of which…
The Trailblazer can be equipped with one in two engines. The standard powertrain is a 1.2-liter turbo-3 that delivers 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. It comes in front-wheel-drive only and is paired with a continuously variable transmission.
The upgrade is a 1.3-liter turbo 3 that will belt out 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. It can be ordered with either front- or all-wheel drive, the latter changing the CVT for a 9-speed automatic.
The 1.3-liter engine, when kept with front-wheel drive and the CVT, gives better mileage per gallon with 33 on the highway and 29 inside the city for a combined 31.
Inside the cabin, there’s space for up to five adults, with four being able to ride in complete comfort. That still leaves room enough for cargo with 25 cubic feet behind the second row that can balloon to 54 if the second row of seats is folded down, making the Trailblazer one of the roomiest small crossovers out there.
The base trim is dubbed the Trailblazer L and starts below $20,000. For such a tantalizingly-low price you get a ton of standard features such as a 7.0-inch color touch, Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, cloth front bucket seats, power features, and two USB ports. On top of these, every Trailblazer comes with a great set of standard safety features the most notable of which are Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Active Lane Control, and Automatic High Beams.
