Being part of the strong Chevrolet family of trucks comes with its perks. Mainly some strong genes that come out in the form of powerful engines, a resilient body, and lately some top-of-the-line safety and connectivity tech.
The Chevrolet Colorado‘s strong-looking exterior that sports sharp, modern lines gives out a commanding presence while on the road. And for good measure since under the hood, there’s an abundance of horsepower no matter the powertrain you end up choosing.
First is the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out an impressive 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque. Paired with a responsive 6-speed automatic, it has enough power to tow up to 3,500 pounds and it still manages to deliver 19 miles per gallon inside the city and 25 on the highway.
The first available upgrade comes in the form of a 3.6-liter V6 that can produce 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. Available on the Z71 and ZR2 trims, the V6 will tow upwards of 7,000 pounds and still keep to the 25 miles per gallon on the highway mark.
Later this year a third engine will be made available, the 2.8-liter Duramax turbo-diesel four-cylinder that can deliver 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The extra torque goes a long way in terms of towing power as the 2.8-liter can tow up to 7,700 pounds, more than any other engine on the Colorado.
With four trims to choose from, the Colorado is one of the most customizable mid-sized trucks on the market.
The base trim is called the Colorado WT, short for Work Truck, and it’s designed for fleet purchases. Even so, it comes with quite the list of standard features, especially for a truck.
Future 2021 Colorado WT owners can expect perks such as a 3.5-inch monochromatic driver information center, a rear vision camera, climate control, 17-in. Ultra-Silver steel wheels, a chrome rear bumper, the CornerStep rear bumper, daytime running lamps, halogen headlamps, vinyl seat trim, a four-way power driver’s seat, and a two-way manual front passenger’s seat, Chevrolet’s Infotainment 3 System complete with a 7-inch color touchscreen, both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, Bluetooth®, and the SiriusXM® Satellite Radio.
In terms of safety, apart from the classic airbag system, the 2021 Colorado WT is also fitted with the Teen Driver Pack that allows parents to help young drivers make better decisions on the road by limiting the truck’s maximum speed and audio volume.
Not at roughly $26,000, the WT is a phenomenal choice but most retail buyers will begin to consider trims starting with the LT and up.
What does the LT bring extra?
Well, on top of everything listed above, future owners will also get body-color door handles, power outside mirrors, and rear bumper, an inside rearview auto-dimming mirror, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, two rear USB charging-only ports, the EZ-Lift and Lower tailgate, a remote locking tailgate, a spotter mirror, 4G LTE Wi-Fi® hotspot capability, a six-way power driver’s seat, a bump up to an 8-inch color touch, cruise control, dual rear seats with under-seat storage, and upgraded cloth seat trim.
