Chevrolet is committed to introducing advanced technology solutions in drivable and practical vehicles that decrease our dependence on petroleum and reduce our emissions. No petroleum is used to power Equinox Fuel Cell. With hydrogen as the fuel, Equinox Fuel Cell will emit zero greenhouse gases, only water vapor.
The electric motor traction system provides the vehicle with instantaneous torque, which means exciting acceleration. Additionally, the vehicle features smooth acceleration and quiet performance. Equinox Fuel Cell’s ability to start and operate in subfreezing temperatures is also a major advancement in fuel cell technology. The vehicle can go up to 200 miles per fill-up on hydrogen and is engineered to reach a top speed of 100 mph.
Equinox Fuel Cell has been designed to meet all applicable 2007 U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Equipment includes driver, front passenger and head-on curtain side air bags, StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System, four-wheel antilock disc brakes with Traction Control, and OnStar®. On the outside, notice Premium Tricoat paint and unique styling that is distinctively Chevrolet. This Equinox Fuel Cell vehicle is fully functional, carrying up to four occupants and their gear.
GM has launched a test fleet of 100 Equinox Fuel Cell vehicles in metropolitan New York City, Washington D.C. and southern California (“Project Driveway”). Green Car Journal gave the Chevy Equinox Fuel Cell its Green Car Vision Award®, the first time the magazine has recognized a limited production vehicle for its forward-thinking technologies. Equinox Fuel Cell won the award over several other nominees, including the Honda FCX Clarity and the Toyota Prius Plug-In. GM is working with several energy companies to make hydrogen fueling stations commercially available. More information is available at www.chevrolet.com/fuelcell.
