December 21, 2010 – New Canaan, CT
KARL Chevrolet in New Canaan has completed the first delivery in Connecticut of the new 2011 Chevrolet Volt. The proud new owners, Frank and Linda Calder, pose next to their White Diamond Tricoat Metallic Volt below.
Back in the summer when the Calders placed their order, they had asked if it was possible to have their new Volt delivered for Christmas 2010. At the time, considering production of the Volt was not slated to begin until November 2010, the best we could say was “we’ll try”. To be honest, it seemed unlikely at the time. But working with executives at GM, along with KARL Chevrolet’s commitment to earn qualification as one of GM’s selected Volt Launch Market dealers, the Calder’s new Volt made it just in time. In fact, their new Volt is #00029, meaning it is just the 29th Volt ever produced. The Calders are among the very first consumers in the US to take delivery of a new Volt and the first in the state of Connecticut.
We would like to extend our thanks to Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell and the Connecticut Electric Vehicles Infrastructure Council she formed for helping to pave the way for what we believe will be wide-spread acceptance of EV’s throughout Connecticut. We are confident that incoming Governor Dan Malloy will be equally helpful in promoting the benefits of Electric Vehicles to Connecticut residents and businesses. We also thank the folks at the CT Department of Motor Vehicles and our state trade association President, Mr. Jim Fleming, for assistance helping to make this day possible.
Last Thursday, the very first Volt delivery in the nation took place in New Jersey when Jeffrey Kaffee drove off in his new Volt from Gearhart Chevrolet. As the Calder’s quietly drove off in their new Volt, it is clear the Electric Car evolution has begun, and from this day forward an increasing number of consumers will be taking delivery of efficient and economical Electric Vehicles that will have a dramatic impact on reducing the United States’ dependence on foreign oil. It’s a great day to be driving Electric!
